Skiinggggggggg

Oh my gosh...I have so much to talk about but first, I need to talk about the greatest source of my happiness right now: Skiing.

As talked about in a previous post, I took up skiing because my friend Austin gave me skis, a few free lift tickets, and offered to teach me.  The first day was......pretty brutal.  And I wasn't sure why he continued to encourage me and tell me how good I was doing. I was not doing well.

But then we went last Friday and again today.  Actually, today I didn't even use my pass because no one scanned it or asked for it, and we didn't get to do too many runs because I took one of my roommate's friend (Garrett) up with us.  That was kind of a mistake.

Austin and I were having a great time and I felt so comfortable skiing, and even attempted some mini jumps and he taught me how to crouch down and lean back on my skis. (Hard to explain but he makes it look really cool and expert)  I was zooming down blues and kicking up powder.

Garrett was keeping up with us for the most part, but we had to keep stopping and encourage him to get down or help him back up from falls.  It was hard for me to remember that I was in that same position just a few days ago so I got a little impatient, but Austin kept teaching him and staying back.  We went up a big lift that is somewhat equal to the tram, and I started getting nervous.  The visibility was only 10 feet in front of you and it was a very long run.  A third of the way down, Garrett had had enough.  He started hiking down.  We tried and tried to get him to just take it slow with us and come down, but he kindly refused.  The only way down for him was to go get ski patrol.  Austin and I skiied down and told them what was going on, and after chowing down on the most delicious nachos ever, we look over and see ski patrol carrying Garrett down in the taboggon. We started cracking up.

A pale Garrett came over to us and expressed how terrifying that ride was.  "I closed my eyes the whole time because we were going so fast and off cliffs and I was sure I was going to die."  The humble Austin: "Ya I don't blame you...it's scary, they are really good!"  The funny thing is is that Austin skis with the ski patrol and is taking some classes so he can do that part time for fun!

Oh I can't wait to go back up there...I smile from ear to ear the whole time now.  I want to go back tomorrow, but I start my internship tomorrow at Primary Children's!

I can't believe it! But I'm jealous - I never had the guts to try that kind of stuff.
