Things are going reasonably well at this point. Wednesday I went in for an interview at LifeTree Research. I applied on their website on a whim, even though they didn't have any openings at the time, and to my surprise, they called me in. The director spoke with me and showed me the place which is HUGE! It is filled with 20-30 beds, an operating room, other medical rooms, and the director showed them to me at a very fast pace. At the end of the interview, she told me that that was one of the prerequisites, to see if I could walk as fast as her because it is a fast paced environment. She offered me the job and said I could start training in June and work as a CNA, and when I passed the NCLEX, I would be promoted to a RN Clinical Researcher!
This company takes drug trials from all different drug companies that want their drugs passed by the FDA. The CNAs and EMTs intensely monitor patients who take the drugs and meticulously record their vitals, side effects, and general effectiveness of the drug. The RN Clinical Researcher do the more advance things like spinal fluid draws (!?), collecting medical histories, and overseeing many CNAs and EMTs to make sure they are staying on time with recording information. This job is per diem (as needed) because they don't have regularly scheduled trails, but they said that from May-September they are completely booked and will have trials going on almost every week 24 hours a day. They are very flexible with when employees can come in, and I am really excited to just be apart of this. I have always loved pharmacology and learning how different drugs affect people in different ways, and I love an environment that is fast paced with many learning opportunities. Plus, I am very excited that I will get to start a little bit in May so I have some financial security with at least ONE job.
As far as the Immunocompromised Unit goes, they called me on Wednesday and offered me a second interview. I am very grateful that they offered me a second interview, but I can't help but be a little worried because I know that they have offered some people jobs. One of my friends who intereviewed with me has worked there for 3 years, and she was offered a job on Wednesday which was no surprise, and she said they are still deciding on who will fill the remaining spots. But no word on how many spots are still left. The nurse recruiter sent me the email regarding the interview to confirm it, and I noticed that the second interview is another group interview, introductions, game, and then individual interviews. So I'm not sure if they are bringing even more people to interview for the position that are very qualified, and I'm not sure what I can do to really stand out again and show them HOW MUCH I want/NEED this job. I'm looking up practice interview questions and am going to rehearse them, so hopefully Wednesday will go even better than last time. I think I am one of the few who has very little bedside Oncology practice, but hopefully I can turn that into a positive reason for them to hire me! =)
