Up in the Air

I have awesome news. Well, it may not be awesome to seasoned business workers, but it is to me. I am going on a business trip to Chicago. My supervisor gave me a study to be the primary lead coordinator on, which means they fly me to Chicago the last Thursday of the month, have a chaffeur pick me up and take me to my hotel, go to a meeting with the pharmaceutical company the next day, and fly home. I'll get some personal time that Thursday night and Friday morning to see some of the city, but I will be all by myself so I don't know how determined I will be to scope out a strange city on my own. Nevertheless, I am so stoked to get to go on a trip that is paid for and I just go along for the ride. When I went into the medical field, that was one drawback that I saw: never being able to go on business trip. But now my current job is half business, half medical so I guess I get to be in two different job spectrums.
If you are interested, the study I am doing is going to be testing a drug at different dosages for minimizing Alzheimer Disease symptoms. I'm excited to be apart of it because I have always been mystified by Alzheimer's and there terrible stress and sadness it puts on their family members, so hopefully I am apart of something that could lead to great things in the future. It is only a phase I study though (very beginning study) so we'll see where this goes. For now, I am just happy knowing that I get to be a big girl and go to a meeting all on my own!

That's great. I remember my first few business trips and how it seemed I was pretending to be a grown up. Plus you'll be working on a drug that will benefit ME someday. I assume you won't be there unaccompanied (that someone else from your employer will attend the meetings). Have fun, and if you need directions to get to the Segway tour of downtown and the lakefron, let me know. It was a lot of fun. Dad

Oh goody - Chicago is beautiful and they have yummy food, as I recall. It can be a lot of fun to wander around by yourself for a while. Just check out Tripadvisor or whatever for ideas on what to do with the little time you have.
