My mom is the best. She has class. She can sew you a dress that you dream up in your head. She can cook you a five star meal at the drop of a hat. She will beat any other moms out there on a bike...or dads. Which also means that her physique is that of a 20 year old.
| Dave's head popping in the middle and Laura and Sarah's head smushing her symbolizes the personal space my mom has given up in her entire motherhood. |
She will listen to your dreams and encourage you to go after them, even if she thinks they may be a little far fetched. She'll listen to you cry over the phone even if she was doing something important and you are crying over NOTHING. She'll be the one voice you believe when she says you CAN do it.
| She had 4 girls and never went on SSRIs or anxiety meds! |
One of the best things about my mom is that she is an example of what everyone in the world wants to have. She married a man who is funny, tall, handsome, successful, intelligent, caring, loyal, and respectful. They had 6 GORGEOUS children. :) Grew up and raised a family in sunny California where she could walk her kids to school. She has a LOT of friends. She lives in a beautiful home and works on different projects that she is a natural at. I don't know one person in the world that wouldn't want to be her.
So it is not much of a surprise that I have a little anxiety entering my adult years, wondering "How can I live as good of a life as her?" She has set the bar pretty high, but I am glad that I have had her be the one who has raised me and taught me the important principles in life. She has taught me when I should worry, and when I should go with the flow. When I should work harder, and when I need to take a deep breath and relax.| The comforting smile Donovan is displaying just shows the kind of happiness her hugs bring. |
One of the best lessons she taught me recently is about relationships. I have seen a lot of awful marriages lately, and I wonder how I will be different if everyone believed that they had everything at one time. She said, "That is the problem with the world right now. Everyone wakes up each morning and thinks, 'How can I make myself happy today? What can I do for me?' When really, each morning you should wake up and ask yourself how you can serve your companion and those around you. If you do that, you will always be happy." My mom has devoted her life to service, so I guess that is why she has always had happiness.
| I had to include this picture because even though she is gardening and hunched over, she is still gorgeous. |
My mom is more than a mom. She exemplifies what every woman aspires to be, and am so grateful to have her as the woman I get to receive counsel from. If I am half the woman and mother she is one day, I will count myself as pretty blessed.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I love you very much!

Superbly written, Becca, a very nice tribute. I also appreciate the long list of adjectives you assigned to me (it was me, right?). Nicely done.
Thank you! That was really nice of you. I have loved being a mother to such lovely children. I'm just not sure about the part that I have a body of a 20 year old?!?!
