I really do matter!

Let's give a round of applause for the Sun. Yay! It is gorgeous outside, which makes me feel very peachy. I got 11 hours of sleep and I'm sitting in my Pathophysiology class 15 minutes early. Why am I so early? Because I had to go into work (which is right next to my class since it is in the College of Nursing) to get my phone charger I left there. I checked my mailbox and I actually had something fun to read. No, not fun, fantastic! One of the best things I have read in a long time. I got TWO thank you notes! Two daughters of an elderly woman that I took care of this past weekend wrote thank you notes SPECIFICALLY to me and one of the nurses I worked with. Usually, thank you notes are addressed to the whole floor because patients don't always remember people's names because they are in a drugged-out state. But this one was for me. Here's what the first one said:
To Lucero & Becca:
You two gave my mother the best care! Your kind and loving care was beyond excellent! We have been in several hospitals before and you are the best ever. We have never received such excellent care as we have received from you two!
To Lucero & Becca:
Thank you so much for the loving care beyond the call of duty for my mother. You were so excellent and care. You are the best we have ever had at anytime she has been in the hospital. Thank you all so much again!
I feel elated. Never underestimate what a thank you note can do, especially if you are in the hospital. And this has just reminded me how happy I am that I am pursuing nursing. And even though I am not an RN yet, it's great to know that I can still make just as much of a difference as a nurse's assistant. And it was awesome because my supervisor wrote me a note too and thanked me for the difference that I am making in people's lives. Yay! What a great day!

Woohoo, a Becca blog! That's really cool about the thank you notes. What a good feeling. Also, I am looking forward to many crazy Hepatitis (or other scary disease)-related stories.

P.S. you might want to change your settings to allow anonymous comments, for people like Mom or Dad who don't have blogger profiles.

It's nice to add another stop on my morning tour of checking out what my daughters are up to. And it continues to give me immense satisfaction to read/hear about the nursing thing and how well you're doing (to say nothing of the fact that it bodes well for my personal future--but I promise you won't have to clean my creases).
