I feel like a retard right now

A couple months ago Jeff and I were talking about how we loved texting and facebook chat because you can come up with wittier things to say when you can think before you say something. So tonight I was chatting with this kid who I have always liked and he was talking about how he was speaking to two people in Spanish and two in English. At that moment I really wished I could come up with something cool to say in Spanish to impress him, but alas, nothing came. So I went to freetranslation.com to help me out. I know they aren't totally reliable but I typed in a pretty simple sentence and then sent it to this kid Marty. He replies in a long paragraph that I can actually understand...but two seconds later he writes "by the way, I know you are using a translator because no one uses 'usted' anymore. Tramposa. (cheater)"

D'oh! Don't use a translator if you are trying to impress someone. It doesn't work.

Ha! You should have been like "I just wanted to use the formal 'you' because I respect you so much. I won't make that mistake again." Then he would have felt like a jerk.

I used it to speak in Croatian to this girl at work (she's American, but her parents are Serbs). Just remember "peace out" literally translated usually doesn't work in another language. But she loved it and now we always say 'mir van' when saying good bye.

Your heading makes me laugh, coming from a kind, loving caregiver like yourself. I would have enjoyed it even more if you'd added the usual "freakin'" modifier before "retard."
