CODE RED HAS NOW BEEN CLEARED

I think my life has started to suck more everyday...and today it was just icing on the cake. I get to work and I have a few admits coming from surgery that have crazy post-op vitals. (I was taking vital signs every 15 minutes for one guy. This is the same guy who's first question was which channel is PlayBoy? And "How did they know I had a thing for red heads? And twin red heads taking care of me!" The nurse I was working with also had red curly hair.) I was running my butt of the whole time and was SOOOOO hungry and tired because of my awesome workout this morning. Eventually, I got a chance to get a bite to eat around 8 PM. I threw some toast in the toaster, and then ran to fetch a patient out of the bathroom because they pressed the help alarm. I get out of the patient room and fire alarms are going off and there are huge clouds of smoke coming out of our mini kitchen. You have got to be kidding me. I go to where to smoke is and someone yells "It's the toaster!! It's on fire!!" Crap. We lock down the place, shutting patients' doors, call a code red, and try to assure patients everything is going to be okay. Nurses are wondering who put toast in there, but honestly, I was so busy running around getting patient's what they needed that I didn't even have time to go and confess.
So here is my confession: I DID IT, OKAY?? Maybe, just maybe, if nurses were ACTUALLY given a lunch break it wouldn't have happened and I could've calmly watched my toast being toasted...but in this crazy hospital world, I am lucky if I get a 10 minute break to eat. So there. My bad...I will never make toast again.
